Slovak Telekom upgrades VDSL to stream 2HD+2SD channels

Friday 15 March 2019 | 13:28 CET | News

Slovak Telekom has deployed a function for viewing 2HD channels on its VDSL network. The function has already been available on the fibre-optic network for some time now, but on the VDSL network, several superstructures and capacity adjustments were needed to provide the required higher quality of programmes.

So far, customers could view programmes in the combination 1HD+1SD over the VDSL network, i. e. one channel in HD, and another viewed or recorded in SD.

After the upgrade, customers will be able to watch Magio TV in the profile 2HD+2SD on VDSL providing that beside Magio TV, they are also using Magio Internet L or XL and the speed of their downstream internet service is at least 25 Mbps.

Customers with lower Magio Internet M internet service can only watch TV on the VDSL network in the current profile 1HD+1SD, because of available network capacity.

Customers with a set-top-box can record a maximum four various channels simultaneously, including two in HD and two in SD.

Customers using two set-top-boxes can simultaneously use two HD and two SD streams, but they need a set-top box with recordable hard drive. If on one set-top-box the customer uses both streams in HD, then on the second one, they will be available in SD.
