SmarTone's 6-month revenue drops 24% on lower handset sales, roaming income

Hong Kong operator SmarTone saw its profit increase slightly year-on-year to HKD 267 million for its first half ended 31 December 2020, from HKD 265 million in the year-earlier period. There was a substantial decline in roaming revenue as a result of travel restrictions from COVID-19, which was offset by successful execution of cost reduction and productivity initiatives, the company said. Group total revenue plunged 24 percent year-on-year to HKD 3.24 billion, mainly due to lower handset revenue and roaming revenue.
