Smartphone sales to grow 23.8% in 2014 - IDC

Over 1.25 billion smartphones will be shipped worldwide in 2014, representing a 23.8 percent increase from the 1.01 billion units shipped in 2013, according to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC). Back in May IDC forecast a 23.1 percent growth in smartphone sales, for a total of 1.21 billion, but recent improvements in commercial demand in emerging markets has prompted the revised figure. IDC now expects total volumes to reach 1.8 billion units in 2018, resulting in a 12.7 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2013 – 2018 forecast period. Although mature markets
