Smartphone sales up just 3.9% to 349 mln in Q1 - Gartner

Worldwide sales of smartphones slowed to 349 million units in the first three months of the year, an annual increase of just 3.9 percent, according to data from Gartner. The changing market dynamics were characterised by large vendors experiencing growth saturation and emerging brands continuing to disrupt existing brands' long-standing business models. There are now three Chinese brands – Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi – within the top five worldwide smartphone vendors, representing 17 percent of the market compared to 11 percent in the year-earlier quarter.
