Smartphones to become important payment method - study

Digitisation will significantly change the financial sector over the next ten years: smartphones will become the third most important payment method (62%) after credit cards (70%) and debit cards (67%), according to a recent study conducted on behalf of IT association Bitkom on the occasion of the Hub Conference on 10 December in Berlin. Among the 100 managers and chairmen of financial companies who were interviewed, 61 percent think that cash will no longer be the dominant payment method by 2025. About 37 percent expect that it will be common not to have any checkouts in retail shops anymore
