French firm start-up company Smokio has developed the world's first electronic cigarette that comunicates with a mobile app to give smokers precise statistics about their consumption, reports France Mobiles. The 'coaching' app also accounts for the many smokers who have taken up vapour-based e-cigarettes while continuing to smoke traditional ones.

The chip used in the Smokio e-cigarette and the app itself were entirely developed in France, according to co-founder Alexandre Prot. The EUR 79.90 Smokio kit includes a battery, two 'clearomizer' filters, a USB charger and a vial of nicotine-free 'e-liquid'.

The chip is integrated in the battery. The free app provides data on the number of puffs, an estimated cigarette equivalent, savings made, a map of where the owner uses the device, and health indicators such as the amount of nicotine eliminated, blood oxygen levels, risk of a cardiac incident and an estimate of the number of days of life expectancy gained.
