Sobotka's pre-paid SIM card registration plan raises criticism

The draft security package of the Austrian government includes an obligation to register pre-paid SIM cards, reported Der Standard. The obligation would apply only to new SIM cards, not those that are in circulation already. Still, the measure proposed by Minister of the Interior Wolfgang Sobotka (OVP), has raised much criticism from both operators and data protection activists.
