Softbank buys discounted stake in Uber

Japan's SoftBank has acquired a 20 percent stake in Uber, the Wall Street Journal reported. The transaction values the company at USD 48 billion, a discount of about 30 percent against the company's most recent valuation of USD 68 billion, sources familiar with the matter said. Under the deal, SoftBank itself will own about 15 percent of Uber, and other members of SoftBank's bidding group will get a stake of around 3 percent.‚Äč SoftBank will also invest about USD 1.25 billion in Uber, a concession to existing Uber shareholders concerned that the purchase of lower-priced shares in the tender
