Some 21% of US broadband homes have an internet STB

Friday 21 August 2015 | 14:25 CET | News
Internet set-top boxes (iSTBs) such as Apple TV and Roku are now present in 21 percent of US broadband homes, compared to 13 percent in early 2014, according to new research from TDG. The rise represents a 63 percent increase in penetration over a year. An estimated 20 million US homes now use an iSTB to access streaming TV services. The products are particularly popular among broadband users aged 22-44 (29% penetration). Among 18-24 year-olds, the penetration is only 20 percent, as so-called Late Millennials are more likely to use game consoles than newer platforms to watch streaming TV.
