Sonatel to start using ACE cable in H1 2012

Senegalese telecom operator Sonatel will start using the ACE undersea cable, linking France and South Africa along the western coast of Africa in the first half of 2012. Completed in September, the 17,000 km cable cost XAF 450 billion (approx EUR 690 mln) in total, XAF 100 billion (EUR 150 mln) of which came from Sonatel and its parent company, France Telecom. It is expected to meet Sonatel's requirements for the next 10 years. Eqipment is now in place at Senegal's two landing points, Ouakam and Ifan, according to local press reports.
