Sony Ericsson returned to net profit in the first quarter, posting a result of EUR 21 million versus a loss of EUR 293 million a year earlier. The company attributed the better results to the launch of new products such as the Xperia X10 and Vivaz, and its restructuring programme, which aims to reduce annual costs by EUR 880 million. The full effect of the restructuring is expected in the second half of this year. Sony Ercisson shipped 10.5 million phones in the quarter, down 28 percent from a year ago.
