South Africa smartphone revenues grow 3% in Q1, despite decline in unit sales

Smartphone unit sales declined in South Africa by about 7 percent year-on-year in the first quarter, but the value of the smartphone market climbed nearly 3 percent to around ZAR8.6 billion as shoppers splashed out on higher-end models with larger screen sizes, according to the latest GfK South Africa's Weekly Monitor. The report indicates that the consumer technical goods market as a whole grew 1.6 percent year-on-year.
