South African budget smartphone prices fall 70% since 2015

The price of entry-level smartphones in South Africa has decreased by more than 70 percent since 2015, according to data presented by Google, reports MyBroadband. Between 2015 and 2018, the price of entry-level smartphones dropped by over 50 percent from around ZAR 1,552 to ZAR 754. Mariam Abdullahi, the director for Android platform partnerships in Africa, said that the launch of Android Go in South Africa has cut the price of entry-level smartphones by around 18 percent.
