South African ISPs hope INX black hole will curb DDoS attacks

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in South Africa said they had suffered an unusually large number of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks in November, which media reports blamed on organised criminal syndicates. The Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) said that administrators at South African Internet Exchanges (INXs) are taking action to fight DDoS attacks by creating a so-called black hole to funnel identified DDoS traffic passing through the exchanges into oblivion.
