South Korea, private sector spearhead AI with new centre

The South Korean government said it will put KRW 1 trillion into the artificial intelligence industry by 2020, Yonhap reported, adding that Samsung, LG, SKT, KT, Naver and Hyundai Motor will all join the initiative, with each planning to invest around KRW 3 billion of its own money. The government will also support the civilian-led establishment of a high-profile research centre, tasked with serving as a pivot for the nation's research and development in the field. The ministry said that once private companies set up the research institute, it will provide financial support for core R&D
