South Korea to invest KRW 49 bln in emergency drone development

South Korea will invest KRW 49 billion (approximately USD 45.9 million) to develop various types of drones that can be used in emergency and disaster situations, Yonhap news agency reports, citing a government statement. Under the plan unveiled by the Ministry of Science and ICT, South Korea plans to develop drone platforms by 2020 to support search and rescue (SAR) missions following earthquakes and floods. According to the Korean Ministry, around 2,800 drones will be used by firemen, police officers and maritime officers starting in 2021.
