Spain assigns new fixed line numbers to Madrid and Gipuzkoa

Spain's secretary of state for telecommunications and the information society (SETSI) has confirmed that the Spanish provinces of Madrid and Gipuzkoa have been assigned 1.1 million new fixed line numbers to cope with demand. A total of 1 million new numbers will be made available in Madrid under the prefix 919 (plus a six-digit number), with 100,000 numbers released in Gipuzkoa under the prefix 8437. Spain's telecom regulator CNMC had asked SETSI to consider the possibility of assigning new prefixes because the existing numbers were 97 percent occupied in Madrid and 91 percent occupied in
