Spain confirms average fixed termination rate cut of 85%

Spanish telecoms regulator CNMC has confirmed an 85 percent average cut to fixed termination rates following a period of public consultation. The watchdog reduced the termination rate payable by alternative operators by 89 percent, while incumbent Telefonica's rate was cut by 80 percent. As a result, asymmetric fixed termination rates have been eliminated, with the rate finally set at 0.0817 euro cents per minute for all operators. Previously, alternative operators were allowed to apply a 30 percent mark-up on Telefonica's rates.
