Spain looking to close nine DTT channels by year-end

Spain's industry minister, Jose Manuel Soria, has stated that the government is planning to close down nine DTT channels by the end of the year. Soria confirmed that, after months of negotiations with TV broadcasters, the government is now ready to comply with the Supreme Court's ruling that the award of the DTT licences by the previous government in 2010 without a public tender was unlawful. Spain needs to reorganise its spectrum to free up space for 4G technologies and meet the digital dividend deadline of January 2014. The government intends to achieve this through the closure of the DTT
