A total of 6.5 million mobile numbers were ported in Spain in 2017, around 15 percent more than in 2016, according to the latest figures from regulator CNMC. There were just over 52 million active mobile (voice, broadband and M2M) lines on 31 December 2017, up 1.7 percent year on year, with the penetration rate coming in at 111.8 lines per 100 inhabitants. Another 622,233 lines were ported in December, around 26.2 percent more than a year earlier, said the regulator.

The Masmovil group once again led the monthly portability ranking, its Yoigo, Pepephone and LlamaYa brands gaining a total of 77,130 lines in December, followed by Movistar (Telefonica) with 48,960 and Orange with 40,910. Vodafone was the month’s biggest loser, shedding some 48,070 lines while the country’s MVNOs posted combined losses of 32,550 lines.

The watchdog also reported that Spanish mobile broadband lines increased by 6.3 percent year on year to reach a total of 42.1 million at the end of 2017 after some 98,938 new lines were added in December alone.
