Spain regulator to phase out GigADSL wholesale access service

Monday 15 January 2018 | 11:31 CET | News
Spain's communications regulator CNMC has announced that 'GigADSL', the country's first indirect access service, will be phased out in 2019 some 20 years after its launch. The service that gave rival operators wholesale access to Telefonica's ADSL network was launched in 1999 and was based on the company's ATM technology. It has since been largely replaced by ADSL-IP and NEBA (New Broadband Ethernet Service), which regulates access to Telefonica's fibre network.
