Spain tracking data of millions of smartphone users for location survey - report

Spain's National Statistical Institute (INE) has begun tracking the movements of millions of smartphone users as part of a sociological study lasting from 18 to 21 November, reports El Pais. The agency paid Telefonica, Vodafone and Orange a total of around EUR 500,000 for permission to collect the data of their customers, said the report, adding that the aim is to gather information from at least 17.5 million Spaniards to give local governments a better understanding of their movements, working habits, places of residence and favourite holiday destinations.
