Spain's CNMC confirms new prefixes for Madrid and Gipuzkoa

The Spanish provinces of Madrid and Gipuzkoa will shortly be assigned new fixed line prefixes to cope with the saturation of the previous format, according to telecom regulator CNMC. In the summer the watchdog asked the country's secretary of state for telecommunications and the information society (SETSI) to consider the possibility of assigning new prefixes and has now accepted SETSI's project to assign the prefix 919 (plus a six-digit number) in Madrid and the prefix 843 in the northern province of Gipuzkoa. Some 1 million new numbers will be assigned in Madrid and 100,000 in Gipuzkoa as
