Spanish consumer body denounces Telefonica personal data use

Spanish consumer protection authority Facua has filed a complaint before the country's data protection agency denouncing Telefonica's use of customer geolocation data for the purpose of sending personalised product offers. In a statement, Facua said Telefonica had failed to obtain the express consent of Movistar customers to the use of data relating to the location of their mobile devices. Although Telefonica sent an SMS to customers requesting consent to use of location data with a view to improving services, the company automatically assumed user consent if they didn't express their
