Spanish telcos to pay EUR 32 mln for 2011 universal service

Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC has ordered Telefonica, Telefonica Moviles, Vodafone and Orange a total of EUR 31.9 million for the universal service provision corresponding to 2011. Telefonica has been required to pay EUR 12 million (38 percent), Telefonica Moviles EUR 9.5 million (30 percent), Vodafone EUR 6.5 million (20 percent) and Orange the remaining EUR 3.9 million (12 percent). The universal service fund is used to deliver telecommunications services to those living in isolated neighborhoods, the disabled, consumers entitled to tariff reductions and information services.
