Spain's telecommunications regulator CNMC announced that the net cost for the universal service provision corresponding to 2015 fell to EUR 15.1 million, around 13 percent less than the year-earlier total of EUR 18.7 million. The universal service fund is used to deliver telecommunications services to those living in isolated neighborhoods, the disabled, consumers entitled to tariff reductions and information services. The service is currently provided by Telefonica, with the operator also contracted to continue operating the payphone network until 31 December 2018.
