Speedcast and PuntoNet connect Galapagos Islands to MEO network

Tuesday 22 January 2019 | 09:32 CET | News
Remote communications and IT services provider Speedcast International has teamed up with Ecuadorian operator PuntoNet to bring improved connectivity services to the Galapagos Islands. The islands have faced connectivity issues in the past due to their remote location some 1,000 km offshore the Ecuadorian coast but the deal will enable PuntoNet to provide the archipelago with up to 1.2 Gbps of bandwidth, said Speedcast, adding that the lower latencies from the MEO (Medium Earth Orbit) network will allow for improved video, VoIP, VPN, streaming and data services.
