SpotX and Smartclip conclude initial merger steps

Video ad serving platforms SpotX and Smartclip said that they have concluded the first steps of their merger and now share a joint management team. The new ad tech company will act under the SpotX brand in the US and internationally, while the Smartclip brand will remain in use in certain local markets. The combined company will generate over 40 percent of its business outside the US in future and focus on expanding investments and scale innovation.

Over 1,000 broadcasters and digital publishers will be able to increase monetisation of their digital audiences thanks to this partnership. Germany's RTL Group, their joint parent company, had first announced plans to merge the companies in November 2017. RTL Group will now roll out the new joint SpotX ad tech platform for its own broadcasting businesses in Europe, beginning with German commercial broadcaster RTL Deutschland in March 2018. The remaining steps of the merger are scheduled to be completed over the course of 2018.
