STC says smart device use surges in Mecca, Medina in Ramadan

Monday 15 August 2011 | 14:15 CET | News
Saudi operator STC said it achieved outstanding successes for the Jawal networks in the central areas of the two holy mosques in Mecca and Medina during the first week of Ramadan. The 3G high speed services saw usage up 90 percent from last year in the central area in Mecca, and a 35 percent rise in the central area of the Mosque of the prophet (Al-Haram Al-Nabawi) in Medina. This increase is attributed to the use of smart devices deploying the STC Jawal network. There was also a 22 percent increase in use of the 2G network in Mecca compared with last year and a 50 percent rise in Medina.
