Streaming music sales surge 20% to over USD 13 bln in pandemic year

The ever-increasing popularity of digital streaming platforms helped total recorded music revenues climb for the sixth straight year in 2020, rising 7.4 percent year on year to USD 21.6 billion and demonstrating the industry's resilience during the global Covid-19 pandemic, according to the latest report from industry body IFPI. Streaming revenues surged 19.9 percent year on year to USD 13.4 billion, equivalent to 62.1 percent of the total, mostly thanks to the 443 million global users of paid subscription accounts at the end of 2020.
