Swedish govt replaces broadcasting licence fee with individual charge based on income

Thursday 19 April 2018 | 12:22 CET | News
The Swedish government has proposed a reform of public broadcasting funding, scrapping the current licence fee and replacing it with an individual charge on all adults (18 or over) with a taxable income. The charge is expected to be capped in 2019 at SEK 1,300 with those earning less than SEK 13,600 per month paying a reduced fee. The charge will be revised annually from 2020 in line with the individual's income declaration.
