Swiss booksellers want to halt monopoly of top domains

Friday 1 March 2013 | 10:45 CET | News
The Swiss association of book publishers and retailers, SBVV, wants to prevent individual market players from being able to acquire the forthcoming new top level internet domain names such as 'dot books' for their own exclusive use, Klein Report said. Klein cited the SBVV as saying this would restrict competition and give one individual provider a massive advantage over its rivals. It is urging the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) not to assign closed generic domain names to individual operators.
