Swiss e-commerce penetration high, but mainly cross-border

Tuesday 19 June 2018 | 10:01 CET | News
Switzerland has one of the highest digital buyer penetration rates in the world, according to eMarketer's first retail e-commerce forecast for the country. More than 75 percent of the population will shop online in 2018. Retail e-commerce sales in the country will total USD 8.08 billion this year, up 5.2 percent over 2017, the market researcher estimates. However, e-commerce sales will represent just 5 percent of total retail sales, putting Switzerland behind many similar markets. This is due in large part to consumers' fondness for cross-border buying.
