Swiss mobile phone penetration reaches 130%

Monday 31 December 2012 | 11:28 CET | News
Mobile phone penetration in Switzerland has gone up from 10 percent in 1996 to 130 percent, reported Neue Zurcher Zeiting, citing figures from Bakom. The newspaper says this puts Switzerland at around the average for the 34 OECD countries. During the first nine months of 2012, the number of mobile phone subscriptions rose by 4.2 percent at Orange, 3.3 percent at Sunrise and 2.9 percent at Swisscom. The number of mobile telephony connections exceeded the number of fixed lines in twelve years ago. At the end of 2011, landline penetration was 39.5 percent, down more than 10 percent since 2005.
