T-Mobile Austria, Huawei demo VoLTE technology
T-Mobile Austria and Huawei, working with Qualcomm subsidiary Qualcomm Technology, have conducted a new technology trial enabling a voice handover from LTE to 3G without any perceivable interruption for the user. This means that the new LTE mobile data transfer standard can now be used for seamless handover of voice calls and video telephony from LTE to legacy 3G/UMTS networks. They have demonstrated voice call continuity from LTE to 3G/UMTS network following the 3GPP Rel. 10 standard. In future, users throughout Europe will be able to switch from LTE to standard mobile telephone networks without any noticeable interruptions. The new Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology was unveiled at the T-Mobile Austria and Huawei Innovation Centre in Vienna on Friday 12 October. The test used Huawei network switching technology and VoLTE test mobile phones based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor MSM8960 chipset.

T-Mobile Austria boosts customer base 3.6% in Q3

T-Mobile Austria has reported revenue of EUR 219 million for Q3 2012, compared to EUR 234 million a year earlier, with adjusted EBITDA down to EUR 65 million, from EUR 69 million. Despite intense competition, the company increased its customer base to 4.07 million in Q3 2012, up 3.6 percent from 3.93 million in Q3 2011. Growth was driven by contract customers.
