Tanzanian govt to bring in pay-per-use mobile tax

Mobile phone subscribers in Tanzania will pay more now that the parliament has passed the Excise Management and Tariff Bill of 2013, which increases excise duty to 17 percent from 14.5 percent, the Tanzania Daily News reported. The move follows President Jakaya Kikwete's decision to scrap the TZS 1,000 per month flat rate SIM card tax imposed during the last budget session of parliament, which was rejected by mobile operators and consumers as unfair.
