TCRA records drop in number of fake phone handsets in Q1

The number of fake mobile phones has decreased from 30 percent in December 2015 to 13 percent in March, thanks to awareness campaigns conducted by the Tanzania Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TCRA), The Citizen reported. TCRA Corporate communications manager Innocent Mungy said TCRA will switch off all fake mobile phones later this month and many mobile phone users have switched to genuine phones. Mungy said the introduction of the International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEA) has helped people to identify genuine phones.
