TEAMs in the red after cable cuts

The East Africa Marine system (TEAMs) said cuts on its undersea fibre-optic cables have pushed the firm into the red. Kenyan operator Safaricom, which has 22.5 percent in TEAMs, made a loss from the investment in the year ended 31 March, compared to a profit of KES 16.2 million in 2012, the firm disclosed in its latest annual report. TEAMs is one of three undersea cables that link Kenya to the rest of the globe. Last year it faced cuts from ships that prompted costly repairs, Business Daily reported.
