Tele Columbus activates Gigabit fibre network

German cable network operator Tele Columbus has activated the first fibre-optic network offering 1 Gbps broadband speeds for private households. These ultrafast speeds are available in the community of Markt Indersdorf, north west of Munich. The network will be operated by subsidiary Kabel & Medien Service (KMS) in the long-term and is wholly-owned by the community. The network provides residents and businesses with access to high-speed broadband, HD TV and phone services. At launch, packages with speeds up to 100 Mbps are on offer, increasing to 400 Mbps from 01 August, and speeds of up to 1
