Tele-Post Greenland expects new sea cable to arrive end-July

Monday 19 June 2017 | 12:39 CET | News

Tele-Post Greenland said manufacturing work and testing of the new Greenlandic marine cable is nearly complete, and that members of its staff have visited France to observe the production work there. The cable will measure approximately 700 km and ill include several different types of line suited to the ocean conditions between Nuuk and Aasiaat.

The new cable will improve internet connectivity in Greenland and enable the provision of a range of services, said Flemming Drechsel, Tele-Post’s wholesale director, who is the executive with responsibility for the sea cable project.

The schedule is for the ship bringing the cable to arrive in Nuuk at the end of July, after which it will carry the line to Maniitsoq, Sisimiut and Aasiaat. It is due to reach its final destination on 31 August and final work should be done in September in October. The system will be thoroughly tested in October and November, and the deployment should then be complete.

Tele-Post hopes to introduce new internet products on 01 December 2017 thanks to the new sea cable and microwave radio facilities.
