Telecom Italia CEO has mandate to buy Metroweb stake-report

Telecom Italia CEO has been given a mandate from the company's board of directors to acquire the 54 percent stake in Milan-based broadband provider Metroweb currently owned by infrastructure fund F2i, reports Reuters. An unnamed source close to the matter said the mandate was given at the last board meeting held on 25 September. In March press reports suggested that Telecom Italia was initially seeking a stake of under 50 percent in Metroweb with a view to avoiding potential anti-trust issues. Metroweb is 87 percent controlled by Metroweb Italia, 54 percent of which is in the hands of F2i,
