Telecom Italia expands FTTH roll-out to 100 cities - report

Telecom Italia has increased the number of cities it expects to cover with FTTH by March 2018 to 100 from 40. According to the paper Il Sole 24 Ore, the company announced the plans in a public consultation at Infratel, the unit of the Ministry of Economic Development working on next-generation broadband. The 100 cities corresponds to about 10 million homes connected and includes large cities and provincial capitals such as Pozzuoli, Casalecchio di Reno and Pero. The operator's budget for the investment is expected to increase by almost 30 percent from the EUR 650 million originally planned to
