Telecom Italia starts Spoleto fibre rollout

Friday 10 April 2015 | 11:08 CET | News
Telecom Italia has begun work on extending its fibre-optic network to Spoleto in the central Italian region of Umbria. The network will be expanded to around 10,000 premises by the end June, with the operator installing 23 km of cables in total to connect 60 street cabinets, bringing internet access at speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Telecom Italia's fibre network already covers around 130 cities, or 30 percent of the Italian population, and it intends to expand coverage to reach 75 percent of the population by 2017 at a cost of EUR 2.9 billion.
