Telecom Italia to examine broadband options this week

The board of Telecom Italia is set to hold a decisive meeting in Venice on 26 March to finalise its domestic fibre-optic broadband investment strategy, reports business daily Il Sole 24 Ore. The operator will need to decide whether to use the proceeds from its recently issued EUR 2 billion convertible bond to accelerate its own FTTC expansion project or else give in to government pressure to jointly invest in FTTH projects together with state-backed holding company Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), said the report, adding that the operator faces a 31 March deadline by which to apply for a
