Telefonica begins charging for excess mobile data

Wednesday 18 May 2016 | 10:12 CET | News
Telefonica has begun automatically charging all Movistar mobile users for excess data use. Previously only new customers were charged to continue surfing at their contracted speed once they passed their monthly limit, but all new and existing prepay and postpay customers will now have to pay 1.5 eurocents per MB up to a maximum of 500MB before having their speed reduced. Users who want to deactivate the automatic excess data option and continue surfing at 16/8 kbps will have to contact the company. Movistar currently offers bonus data bundles of 500MB for EUR 6, 1GB for EUR 10, 3GB for EUR 20
