Telefonica Chile to bring fibre to Tocopilla

Tuesday 5 June 2018 | 14:22 CET | News
Movistar Chile (Telefonica) has announced plans to expand its fibre-optic network to the northern city of Tocopilla in the Antofagasta region. The company revealed its plans at a presentation in the city's Gabriela Mistral school attended by its CEO Roberto Munoz, telecommunications undersecretary Pamela Gidi and Manchester United player Alexis Sanchez. Movistar said it will initially roll out 180 kilometres of fibre cables to bring high-speed broadband to 8,000 premises in Tocopilla by August as part of a project to convert Antofagasta into the country's first "100% fibre" region.
