Telefonica, China Unicom team up to simplify IoT deployment

Telefonica and China Unicom have followed up their joint startup initiative by signing an agreement to work together in the field of Internet of Things (IoT). Under the new partnership the two companies will have access to each other’s networks, allowing their business customers to use the latest technologies in the field and accelerate the deployment of IoT services on a global basis, particularly in Europe, Latin America and China. The new IoT capabilities will be rolled out later this year.

Above all the deal will enable the two operators' business customers to easily and seamlessly deploy IoT products and services in the three regions via a single global IoT SIM card. Using a unified IoT connectivity management platform they will be able to control connections globally and to localise IoT SIMs once they enter a market, complying with GSMA standards, said the partners.
