Telefonica closes 11 more ADSL exchanges - report

Telefonica plans has closed down 11 more ADSL exchanges that are no longer in use due to the expansion of its FTTH network, reports Expansion. The closure of the exchanges in the cities of La Coruna, Barcelona, Caceres, Cadiz, Las Palmas, Madrid, Murcia, Tarragona, Valladolid and Zaragoza forms part of the project to phase out a total of 36 plants all over the country approved by Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC last year. The operator is only permitted to shut down a central exchange office when 25 percent of customers in the area served by the facilities have alternative means of accessing
