Telefonica, Huawei run quantum cryptography demo on commercial optical networks

Telefonica has teamed up with Huawei and UPM (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) to conduct the world's first demonstration of quantum cryptography technology on commercial optical networks. The field trial connected three different Telefonica sites in the Madrid area with software-controlled CV-QKD (Continuous Variables - Quantum Key Distribution) devices developed by the Huawei Research Lab in Munich in collaboration with UPM, together with SDN-based management modules developed by Telefonica's GCTIO Network Innovation team and the components required to integrate QKD with NFV and SDN
