Telefonica announced plans to deploy a 4.5G Evolution network in the cities of Bogota (Colombia), Monterrey (Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as part of its ongoing collaboration with Huawei. The company said it will be introducing 4x4 MIMO, 3x Carrier Aggregation, 256-QAM and Huawei's CloudAIR technology into the networks to test their performance in dense areas of the selected cities. The 4.5G Evolution network offers peak download speeds of up to 1Gbps and is a key step on the road to 5G, said the operator in a statement.
